A note from our Editor

As the year begins people will be setting their goals for 2019, that’s if they have already not done so.  We at SqwidNet have challenged ourselves to sign 3 SMMEs per week and sell them at least 10 IoT devices each which will help them do what they think they should be doing as a company. We estimate that for every 3 SMMEs added 1 job will be created and by the end of 2019 we would have helped create 50 jobs through IoT, this may seem like a small number but that is how you eat an elephant and it will go a long way in improving our country’s economy.

I therefore would like to extend the challenge to you to join us in this goal of making a positive impact on our economy by targeting SMMEs to grow the ecosystem and potential job creation. Instead of aiming to get a bigger piece of the pie let us also focus on growing the pie so that more people can benefit. Introduce your new SMME partners to the IoT devices that will improve what they are doing and in turn create more jobs. This virtuous cycle will generate a bigger impact on job creation than once off opportunities. This is just one small part that we can do weekly to help build a better country for all. Let us Drive IoT Through Innovation to connect and create value for everyone.

Solutions

Device: Tremoli

Solution: Fence Monitoring

The Wi-i Tremoli unit is installed on fence structures (such as weldmesh, palisade, precast walls) to provide reliable intrusion detection. Upon detection of a disturbance, the Tremoli reports alarms over a wireless network to the Wi-i Bridge, alerting the user. Business rules can be set up on the Bridge to, for example, activate perimeter lights based on alerts received.

With the Tremoli breakthrough attempts are detected long before the intruder has breached the wall, this can be from cutting, lifting the fence, to trying to climb over the fence.

The Tremoli detection unit has several advantages over traditional surveillance measures. As a standalone system, no better single intrusion detection solution is available. Excellent detection on perimeter fencing provides assurance of a secure site.

Used in conjunction with existing systems (such as energisers and CCTV surveillance systems), Tremoli amplifies these systems by adding minimal nuisance alarm instances and high probability of intrusion detection, without incurring additional costs for infrastructure.

Features:

  • Battery powered – a single D cell battery can last for more than 4 years
  • Wireless operation – No additional infrastructure deployment required
  • Installation and configuration is easy and can take less than 5 minutes per unit
  • Easy integration with existing systems
