The Sigfox Ambassadors program puts forward some of the best Sigfox experts, evangelists and Sigfox-passionate people. All ambassadors already have a huge in-depth experience of the Sigfox service. Some of the are more at ease with the embedded systems part, some with the cloud application.
Most of them are entrepreneurs, building their own Sigfox solutions. Some of them are teaching electronics and programming in engineering schools. All of them are great at sharing their knowledge and experience about Sigfox. You can rely on them to give conferences and run workshops about Sigfox.
Tiyani Nghonyama is one of them, get to know him better in this short interview.
Hello Tiyani, can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a Computer Systems Engineer with a passion for hardware/electronics, I was born in the northern part of South Africa —Known as Limpopo and can speak 6 of the 11 country’s official languages (Tsonga *, English, Venda, Tswana, Zulu, and Xhosa). I am the co-founder and COO of a youth ICT startup called Geekulcha.
What was your first experience with Sigfox?
In early 2018 at a Hackathon, while building a local weather system as a demo project. We were able to adapt it to various programmes. We worked closely with SqwidNet, the local Sigfox partner, facilitating workshops around the country based on devices and connecting them to Sigfox. Unearthing and igniting innovation in the grassroots with Sigfox was a great highlight.
What are your plans for 2020?
Providing a stepping edge for new IoT based startups is key and it is part of our agenda for pushing a national IoT footprint. Personally, I will be making/building IoT Solutions that directly seek to enterprise mankind. We will continue working with Government entities in the Public Sector Innovation development and unlocking opportunities with Sigfox.
